Potatoes have experienced a 79% increase in menu penetration on pizza in the last 10 years but are still only on 8.8% of restaurant menus who serve pizza. With such a big opportunity to increase the volume of potatoes on pizza menus, Potatoes USA developed a contest for foodservice professionals to inspire operators to feature more potatoes on pizza menus.
The contest launched mid-September 2020 through media channels, including industry-leaders such as Pizza Today and Chef’s Roll, along with the @PotatoGoodness social channel. Over 115 qualified entrants submitted recipes in two categories – potatoes as a pizza topping or potatoes as a side dish suited for a pizzeria menu.
The winners were determined from each category, based on the following judging criteria:
It was a challenge to narrow down the submissions to the top 6, but the chosen winners utilized potatoes in unique and unexpected ways bringing them to the top of the list.
