White Potatoes Types and Tips
Katie Cavuto Boyle explains how to buy, store and prepare this all-purpose potato type, which has white flesh and white (sometimes light tan) skin. They are slightly dense and creamy with a subtly sweet flavor. Their delicate, thin skins add just the right amount of texture to mashed potatoes without the need for peeling. Also try grilling white potatoes to bring out a more full-bodied flavor, or use them in soups and stews as they hold their shape well.
Three recipes using white potatoes:
- Sumac Roasted Potato and Cucumber Salad – Light, flavorful and very easy to prepare. This salad is made with sumac roasted white potatoes, crunchy Persian cucumber, fresh mint and light dressing.
- Chipotle Mashed Potatoes – A twist on mashed potatoes.
- One Pan Chicken Potato Gratin – A remake of the famous classic. We’ve snuck in extra veggies by replacing the traditional butter and flour heavy sauce for a rich and cheesy cauliflower sauce, then nestled in some crispy skinned chicken and kale for a delicious and easy to make dinner recipe.
